Round II: Request for Proposal (RfP) by 24 November for short-listed organizations

The second round of grants (Round II) launched by the Three Diseases Fund (3DF) in 2008 aims to strengthen accountable and inclusive local and community-based organizations to deliver and sustain activities that will reduce the transmission and enhance the provision of treatment and care for Tuberculosis (TB), Malaria and HIV and AIDS. Ceiling amount for these grants will be US$70,000.

The deadline for EOIs was 01 June 2008. Among 63 Expressions of Interest, 13 organizations have been short-listed in October 2008; they have received a Request for Proposal (RfP) with a deadline on 24 November 2008. These proposals will be evaluated by independent experts before final decision on grant allocation. Agreements with the Fund Manager (UNOPS) will hopefully be signed early 2009.

The initial timeframe for projects funded in Round II will be one year or less. During the first year the implementation of activities will be evaluated. On the basis of availability of funds and satisfactory performance, funding may be extended for two (2) additional years.

The Three Diseases Fund is a pooled funding mechanism of total US$100 million over five (5) years supported by six donors (Australia, European Commission, Netherlands, Norway, Sweden and the United Kingdom). In 2007 funds amounting US$21 million were granted to 23 implementing partners drawn from international non-governmental organizations, UN agencies and their local partners. Funding of these 23 partners is currently being extended, for a same amount, over a second year.
